The developments in Flash and Director have been mild the past year. Director has now incorporated 3D modeling into the language, which has given birth to a whole lot of future opportunities. The major developments in the meantime have been in the 'backend' technologies which will be responsible for connecting people together. These backend technologies will play a major role in the future release of Flash 6, slated for sometime in March-April.
Major developments in video streaming technology are also around the bend. Codec's like divx and mpeg4 will allow for quick streaming, and Flash 6 will feature tools that will enable artists to use microphones and webcams in their constructions. However, the more advanced a peice of software gets, the more it alienates its developer audience.
Will we see another creative boom when the software is finally released? Keep an eye on the book sales, cause only time will tell.
